tensioner, that would sound more metal to metal. Don't have 1st hand experience with that, but I do with the plastic flapping sound. It was the timing belt tensioner that had stuck open and it was letting the timing belt flap against the timing belt cover. It wasn't enough to skip a tooth, but maybe I just didn't give it enough time. If it is your tensioner, it could skip a tooth and by the sounds of yours, it could break at any time. Mine never flapped constantly like yours is doing. But when I would rev it, it sounded just like yours. Wouldn't it be a BITCH if you were to ruin your engine on the way to pick up a timing belt? That would be bad luck, we'd all feel sorry for you, but your engine would still have bent/destroyed valves. Don't drive it anymore until you at least remove a timing belt cover and take a look.
